Knitted Cover Material

Hello Keyshot Community!

I’m new here and have beginner knowledge of Keyshot.

My question is about creating a knitted fabric material like the one shown in the pictures attached. Could I please have your advice on best practices for how to go about creating this? Or perhaps direct me to tutorials or similar projects that I can follow and learn from.

Ultimately, I would like to create a fabric material that captures the knit weave, ribbing and blend of different colours.

Thanks for any help with this!

Kieran

Depending on what you need you can either create a really detailed material texture or actually create the geometry in 3D.

For a texture you could look at tutorials on for example Substance Designer which can generate complex materials you can later use on your models using Substance Painter.

In ZBrush you can also do smart things with micropoly and nanomesh it ‘seams’:

And in some 3D programs you can get far using geometry nodes which will create the actual geometry for you like here in Blender:

I’ve no experience in actually creating a material like this but maybe it’s a start. If you can do with less flexibility/looks you can also use a nice default texture maybe like this Fabric Knitted 002 | 3D TEXTURES but it depends a lot on how detailed you want it to be.
